Australia India Youth Dialogue 2013

About the Australia India Youth Dialogue 2013

The AIYD creates of a formal dialogue between the youth of Australia and India. The AIYD believes that whilst constructive activities have historically taken place between both countries, such activities have generally been carried out in an ad hoc manner. The establishment of the AIYD will provide a sustainable platform for the young leaders of Australia and India to come together and foster a strong partnership between the two countries.

In brief, the AIYD host 15 of the best and brightest young minds of each country at an annual conference,in India and Australia in alternate years. The participants are chosen from a variety of professions with the aim to increase perspective of the participants and to encourage our leaders of tomorrow to think outside the box. High profile participants are selected from a variety of backgrounds and mechanisms (such as online discussion forums, publication journals etc.) have been put in place to ensure that regular and formal discussion continues after the annual conferences.

During the AIYD conference, influential speakers present their perspective on issues that affect the Australia India relationship, and participants have the opportunity to engage with these speakers on a face-to-face basis. Participants are encouraged to discuss possible outcomes to concerns that exist in Australia and India - and it is intended that these outcomes will be delivered to the Australian and Indian Governments, as well as relevant government bodies, including the Australia India Council.

The AIYD aims to complement the strategic partnership between the two countries by:

  • Cultivating and fostering the relationship between Australia and India through their youth in a meaningful manner;
  • Providing support to deal with problems and trends and potentially providing solutions for those problems through the innovative ideas of these young leaders during high level discussions; and
  • Providing a deeper cultural insight and understanding of the similarities and differences between the respective nations.

We believe we can achieve these objectives by bringing together 30 of the brightest young people (under 35 years old) from both countries. These people will be selected from various faculties and institutions, including business, arts, culture, politics, social and tertiary institutions.
