Hello every one
In this post i will shower some light on ways to get a part time job quicker but it would entirly depend on the skill set and ability of an indiviual to get maximum out of this post.
Three most important prerequisite you should have to find a job
1.Good English
2.Contacts
3.Confidence--Most important
Students fail to get a desired part time job in Australia because of various factors such as employer need full time workers, student is unable to work full time,Bad inputs students receive from friends and locals etc
You must have good command over english langauge atleast you should be able to convey your message straight to the person you intend to talk with. You will receive advice such as post your resume on job sites such as seek.com.au but simply posting your resume would not help you in anyway to find a job.
You should find the desired part time job and straight away call the concern person/recruiter. Once you call them do not straight up say "i am a student and looking for a part time job"
It is you who feel insecure about being an overseas student in Australia so first and most important thing to remember is Law treats every one equally, you should tell recruiter how you can add value to their clients not start of by saying "oooh i wonder if i will get a job."
you will get a job only if you have qualities and skills employers are looking for and starting off with a fear of being an overseas student would not help you.
start off like this:
Hey how you doing?i just saw and add on ....... and wanted to speak to ..name of person..?(say it with confidence)
then listen properly what he/she says DO NOT INTERRUPT being a good listener will reward you because you will be able to analyze what would be his/her next question?(after you will reply back to the first question)
Express your willingness to work for them by simply saying "i am willing to work part time as i have some other obligations to fulfill(i dont need to say here again do not say i am an international student) you can simply say i wanna work part time so i can have some spare time for myself.
the reason i said above is to help you get your first one on one interaction with recruiter, you must be confident and lead the talk not just walk with the recruiter, fix up an appointment to meet him/her inperson.
When you meet him make sure you are dressed properly and be confident. Here you should tell all your strengths and make sure if he is not asking if you are a student YOU DO NOT NEED TO DISCRIMINATE YOURSELF AT ALL.you will be fine as long as you work on a valid TFN and not more then 20hrs a week during your academic session.
Always give call to recruiter -find out names and contacts -you can find it easy lets say if there is a job in xyz company go staraight to the website of the company and visit carrer section and see current part time opportunities and apply
Again once you have sent your resume to them make sure you do a follow up,give them a ring and say "i Have sent my resume for the position of ...name of position.... and wanted to know when i can come over for a one on one talk?Be confident and be polite ,make sure to hold your horses and spend all your energy on fixing an appointment with recruiter.
Once you are on table with recruiter be honest and only provide information that has been asked by your chosen recruiter.
As i always stress on this and i am going to say it again MAKE LOCAL CONTACTS ,Integrate yourself into Australian mainstream do not ever expect Australians to change for you.Your success will depend on how you penetrate into social network of people there so make local friends.Be good and see only good things in Australia ,work smarter not harder and please never work cash in hand or more then 20 hrs during a session.
In my Next post i will publish a list of very good companies in Australia that are willing to give you good decent part time jobs till then Good Bye and Enjoy your dinner
Best Regards
