Visa Capping bill is introduced in Parliament on 26.05.2010. It will give additional powers to MIAC to cap and terminate applications for certain class or subclasses of visa based on certain characteristics. It is currently being debated in the Parliament and there is no doubut that MIAC can use the powers to cap and terminate existing visa applications of certain occupations such as cooks, hairdressers etc. However the information from DIAC website suggests that the Bill is not currently operative and no actual cap is being considered at present. This Bill seeks only to give the Minister the power to implement a cap in future if necessary.
